Mestre Mindinho (Raphael Cunha) was introduced to Capoeira at the age of 11 and began teaching under the supervision of his Mestre by the age of 17. At the age of 18 he undertook other mixed martial art studies and fighting techniques including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Thai Boxing, Judo, Wrestling, and Ruas Vale Tudo, all with the objective to ultimately better his performance in Capoeira.
In 1994, Mindinho began his studies with one of the top capoeiristas and Mestres of his time, Capoeira Brasil’s Mestre Boneco. Mindinho worked consistently to improve his Capoeira technique, knowledge and teaching methods, and completed multiple workshops in sports training, personal training, marketing, children’s recreation & development, and the marketing and production of sporting and organization events. After completing a degree in Computer Science, Mindinho was then able to make the decision to fully dedicate his life to Capoeira and bring it to the world.
In 1999 - 2000 he began his work outside of Brazil with tours of the United States, and then ultimately founded Capoeira Brasil San Diego in January of 2002. In addition, he also produced Capoeira: Dance and Fight for Freedom, voted the best Capoeira documentary in English by “Planet Capoeira” magazine. Travelling extensively throughout Europe, Asia and Australia, Mindinho has dedicated his life to promoting Capoeira in a fun, positive environment by building a strong foundation, inspiring and enabling his students not only to become true capoeiristas and confident individuals with excelled fitness levels, but most importantly to continue and carry on the knowledge of the art, history, and true tradition of Capoeira.
